Is Forex Trading a 24/7 Game?

The FX market convenes from Monday morning in Mumbai, India to Friday afternoon in New York. Somewhere around the planet at all hours of the day or night, you deal in currency.

It does wind up on weekends so it’s not a real 24/7 market. 24/5 would be more accurate.

If you long to know the precise times that the markets open and close, you have to take time zones into consideration. A classic method to do this would be to use UTC units.

This is Universal Coordinated Time, erewhile referred as Greenwich Mean Time. It is the normal winter time at zero longitude on the globe and the actual location is Greenwich, London.

So, the common foreign exchange market hours are 22.00 Sunday UTC to 22.00 Friday UTC. This likens to10pm winter time in the UK.

Since UK is ahead of New York by 5 hours, the forex market universally will open and adjourn 5 pm Sunday / Friday in NY, 2 pm West Coast, 8 am Monday/Saturday Australia and 11 pm, in Germany.

Expressly, here are the hours of consequential global markets:

London: 8 am to 5 pm UTC Sydney: 10 pm to 7 am UTC Tokyo: 12 midnight to 9 am UTC New York: 1 pm to 10 pm UTC

Alternatively we can connote that in EST (Eastern US time):

Sydney: 5 pm to 2 am EST Tokyo: 7 pm to 4 am EST London: 3 am to 12 noon EST New York: 8 am to 5 pm EST

It’s apparent here that markets do work 24 hours a day in a global sense.

24 hour market trade does not elucidate that all 24 hours are appropriate for good trading. When a huge market sets out in its morning, price movement is quite unreliable and anomalous.

This is why knowledgeable traders will discontinue their trading for a period of as much as an hour 4 times a day when the major places commence their market day.

So on paper you may trade 24 hours a day from Sunday night to Friday night. Automated software in the style of a forex robot can even make this physically attainable.

But the prudent trader opts for optimal times and is eventually not trading during the consolidated operating hours of the foreign exchange market.

Notice: Forex trading is risky, may end up in significant losses, and is not appropriate for everybody.
